FAYETTEVILLE (KFSM) – A day after being named one of the top 51 linebackers in the preseason, Fayetteville native and Arkansas linebacker Brooks Ellis was named to the Wuerffel Trophy Watch list.

The Wuerffel Award is known as “College Football’s Premier Award for Community Service” and is named after former Florida quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner Danny Wuerffel.

Ellis was named the SEC’s football Community Service Player of the Week last season after he helped feed low income families the day before Thanksgiving.

Ellis was named to the Butkus Award watch List on Tuesday after finishing second on the team in tackles last season as he made 72 stops as a sophomore. Spaight led Arkansas with 128 total tackles. Ellis forced two fumbles and intercepted a pair of passes, both of which were tied for the team lead.

Arkansas State quarterback Fredi Knighten was also among the 80 players named to the Wuerffel watch list.
