FORT SMITH (KFSM) – The man who prosecutors said confessed to shooting and killing a Fort Smith runner in a random act of violence over the weekend appears before a judge Wednesday (July 15).

John Suleski is set to appear before a Sebastian County judge via video at 8:30 this morning at the Sebastian County Courts Building. Suleski was taken into custody Saturday (July 11) on suspicion for first-degree murder and unlawful discharge of a firearm within city limits.

This is after, authorities said the body of a runner was found on Wells Lake Road. Police ruled that the man identified as 44-year-old Brent Morrison died of multiple gunshot wounds.

Dectectives spoke with witnesses in the area and Suleski who was also still at the scene of the crime. After interviewing him about what happened, detectives immediately placed him under arrest in connection to Morrison’s death.

Prosecutors said Suleski confessed to what happened admitting that he was on Wells Lake Road to kill himself when he took Morrison’s life instead.

While Suleski’s fate is now being decided by the judical system, Morrison’s family is mourning their loss. Morrison’s wife, Dianne Morrison said she is still shocked at what happened over the weekend.
