FAYETTEVILLE (KFSM) -
As we previewed on Saturday (July 18)
, the "Fill the Bus" school supply drive starts Friday as a means to help needy children and school districts.

In a Sunday (July 19) "5NEWS This Morning" segment, managing editor Larry Henry spoke to Alexa McGriff with the United Way of Northwest Arkansas. She said the drive takes any item children in elementary and junior high schools can use, but there's a real need for backpacks. She also said United Way is looking for volunteers to assist in sorting through the school supplies and handing out the items list.

Nine Walmart Supercenters across Northwest will be participating with the items then being funneled to 16 school districts. Three Walmart locations need volunteers: Siloam Springs, Springdale on Pleasant Street, and Fayetteville on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

"Fill the Bus" begins on Friday (July 24) at 11 a.m. If someone wants to volunteer, click on this link.
