RUSSELLVILLE (KFSM) - A student-athlete at Arkansas Tech University drowned in Pope County on Sunday (July 19), according to a release.

Zemaric Holt, 21, died as a result of injuries suffered in an accident at Long Pool Recreation Area in Pope County, the release states.

“Arkansas Tech extends its deepest condolences to the family of Zemaric Holt, his teammates and his friends,” said Dr. Robin E. Bowen, Arkansas Tech president. “Please know that counselors are available in the Arkansas Tech Health and Wellness Center at Dean Hall for students, faculty and staff who need those services during this difficult time.”

Counselors from the Arkansas Tech Health and Wellness Center were at campus Sunday night to provide support for students, according to the release. They will also be available on Monday.

Holt, a defensive lineman from Quincy, Fla., had been a member of the football program at Arkansas Tech since 2012, the release states. He was scheduled to play his junior season with the Wonder Boys in 2015.
