BUFFALO RIVER (KFSM) – A five-year-old Mayflower boy died on Monday (July 20) after drowning in the Buffalo River at the Tyler Bend area, officials say.

On Monday, the little boy began wading into shallow water and inadvertently got into deeper water, according to a news release. His float ring failed to keep him above the water.

The boy’s father pulled him from the water, and a group canoeing nearby came over to start CPR, officials said.

Medical personnel arrived at the area and continued CPR on the child, but it was ultimately unsuccessful, according to a news release. The child was pronounced dead at the scene, the release states.
