‘No Ceiling’ For Arkansas State Offense

Knighten returns after accounting for more than 4,000 total yards and 36 touchdowns

As the talking season is in full effect, Arkansas State took their turn at answering questions at the Sun Belt Conference media days in New Orleans.

It hasn't been the norm for the Red Wolves to have a coach appear at more than one set of media days as Arkansas State has been a spring board for numerous head coaches including Gus Malzahn and Hugh Freeze, both of which are now head coaches in the SEC West.

But Blake Anderson didn't treat Arkansas State like a launching point, instead he's building one of the most prolific offenses in all college football, at least among those not in a power five conference.

At the heart of his offense, Anderson has the luxury of Fredi Knighten returning for another season at quarterback. The Little Rock native threw for 3,277 yards and 24 touchdowns last season while completing more than 62 percent of his passes. Add the 843 yards rushing and 12 touchdowns to the equation, there may not be a goal high enough to set for the Red Wolves offense.

"For Fredi's transformation from just starting to kind of maturing throughout the season like he did and kind of taking that next step to really being a salty veteran and a leader," Anderson said of Knighten. "I think that's where we're at and I wouldn't put a limit on it. I wouldn't put a ceiling on it. It's a very talented group."

Knighten will be tested early in 2015 as Arkansas State opens the season at USC before returning home to host the two time defending SEC East champion Missouri in week two.
