VAN BUREN (KFSM) – A Van Buren boy has returned home after being hospitalized from a pool accident.

According to a release from Detective Jonathan Wear of the Van Buren Police Department, a 5-year-old boy had fallen into a pool on July 23, 2015, in the Park Ridge Neighborhood after briefly stepping outside of the residence and away from adult supervision.

The family began looking for the child and his mother found him at the bottom of the pool. She jumped in and pulled the boy out while his sister called 9-1-1.

The child was taken to Sparks Medical Center in Van Buren before being airlifted to Arkansas Children’s Hospital.

The release stated the family was told to “expect the worst” but the child began to gradually improve. He was released from the hospital on Sunday (July 26).

According to the release, the boy is expected to have a full recovery.
