WASHINGTON COUNTY (KFSM) – The Washington County Fire Marshal will be investigating today (Aug. 3) to determine what caused a home near Sonora to go up in flames.

Tyler McCartney, Washington County Asst. Fire Marshal said they responded to the call of the home located on Bennington Road around 2 p.m. Saturday afternoon.  He said that no one was inside the home at the time of the fire, but the family’s cat did not make it out alive.

The family was back-to-school shopping at the time of the incident.

According to the homeowner, the family will be staying with other family members because the home is no longer liveable.

The cause of the fire is unknown and the investigation is ongoing.
