SILOAM SPRINGS (KFSM) -- The Siloam Springs Board of Directors decided to support the construction of a dog park west of Bob Henry Park during their meeting Tuesday (August 4).

Renae Sasnett is spearheading the project and said it all started with her German Shepherd, Samson.

"This is a dream of mine, and it's actually coming true for my dog, and it's going to benefit everybody's dog in Siloam Springs," she said.

Sasnett said the land is currently privately-owned, but said the owner will lease the property out for the dog park. She said the area is two acres and will have a small dog area, a large dog area and an agility course.

Board Member Brad Burns said as of now, the city has not put any funds into the project, but said the dog park has the board's full support. Burns said the dog park will be a big amenity for the town.

"Quality of life, economic development," he said. "We would love to see folks that work in Rogers, Bentonville and Springdale area locate over here."

Sasnett said her budget is around $300,000. She said the money will come from fundraising and possibly state and federal grants.

The park is set to open in spring of 2016.
