SALLISAW (KFSM) -- Tax-free weekend got underway in Oklahoma and Missouri at 12:01 a.m. Friday (August 7) and will go through Sunday at 11:59 p.m.

In Oklahoma, clothing and shoes priced under $100 are tax-free. In Missouri, the tax-exempt list includes clothing and shoes under $100, school supplies that do not exceed $50 per purchase, computer software with a taxable value of $350 or less and computers and laptops that do not exceed $3,500.

While many people head to retail giants like Walmart, mom and pop stores in Oklahoma are also preparing for big crowds.

Lizzy Lou's Consignment Shoppe in downtown Sallisaw is one local business where for the past few days employees have been stocking shelves ahead of tax-free weekend. The regular sales tax rate in Oklahoma is 4.5% and coupled with local sales tax the savings are even deeper.

Elizabeth Serviolo, owner of Lizzy Lou's, said this weekend gives families a little break on their wallets.

"I think it helps everybody and not just parents buying school clothes," said Serviolo. "I want to help everyone out in the community and the more the merrier."
