NORTHWEST ARKANSAS (KFSM) -- With high temperatures this weekend, 5NEWS decided to look into ways to beat the heat on these last few dog days of summer.

Here are a few tricks we found online on how to stay cool inside:

  • If you do not have air-conditioning, set a shallow dish of ice cubes in front of a fan. The air will turn into a cool mist.
  • If you are prone to overheating, experts recommend putting a cold cloth or icepack on your pulse points to quickly cool down. Your wrists, neck and back of knees are the ideal spots.
  • Unplug electronics you are not using! According to experts anything, whether it is a toaster, TV, lamp or alarm clock, gives off heat when plugged in.
  • Set a fan in front of a door or window facing outside. The fan will push the hot air out of the home, instead of circulating it inside.

If you do plan to go outside, authorities urge people to stay hydrated and wear sunscreen.
