BENTONVILLE (KFSM) — The Bentonville School District superintendent Michael Poore released a statement Monday (August 10) that it will not change the district’s EEO policy.

In the letter, Poore made it clear “the District does not allow discrimination of any kind based on sexual orientation.”

In the release, Poore stated the district does not need any new policies since the appropriate protections are already in place:

  • The district already has a policy against discrimination based on sex, and the EEOC interprets sexual orientation discrimination as a form of sex discrimination
  • The district does have a robust bullying policy already in place that protects the dignity of all students of all classes.

Poore wrote in the statement the school board members “are already taking steps to ensure that spousal benefits of every type are available to the spouses of all legally married couples – regardless of whether the marriage is between members of the same sex.”
