SPRINGDALE (KFSM) -- Springdale police announced Friday (August 21) they determined Wednesday's shooting near Springdale High School was gang-related.

A juvenile suspect was arrested on suspicion of first-degree attempted murder and handgun possession by a minor on school property the same day, according to police. The juvenile will be charged as an adult and attends the school, police said.

The juvenile was taken into custody just before 7 p.m. after the shooting at 402 Thompson St. near Murphy Park around 4:15 p.m., according to police. Northwest Medical Center in Springdale, which is directly across the street from the park, notified police that a person had been brought in with gunshot-related injuries, police said.

A spokesman for Springdale public schools said the school day was over when the shooting happened, but students who were at the school for activities and practice were notified.

The suspect in the shooting is being held at the juvenile detention center, police said.

Anyone with information regarding the shooting is urged to call the Springdale Police Tip Line at (479) 750-4484.
