FORT SMITH (KFSM) — Labor Day, coming up Monday, Sept. 7, is causing a few schedule changes for Fort Smith offices and services.

All Fort Smith city offices will be closed Sept. 7 in observance of the holiday, according to the Fort Smith city communications manager.

The Department of Sanitation reported that their regular Monday collection of residential trash, yard waste and recyclables will instead by picked up Wednesday, Sept. 9. However, the Fort Smith Regional Sanitary Landfill will be open to the public from 7:30-11:30 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 7.

Fort Smith Transit will not be operating fixed routes, but they will be providing limited demand response service. These rides will cost $3 and must be scheduled in advance by noon on Friday, Sept. 4. Call the transit department at 479-783-6464 to schedule. Hearing-impaired passengers can schedule through the Arkansas Relay Services by dialing 7-1-1.

Emergency services will still be available by dialing 9-1-1. For utility emergencies, dial 479-784-2342.
