VIRGINIA (KFSM) — The gunman who fatally shot a reporter and videographer for a CBS affiliate station in Roanoke, Virginia, also shot himself.
Alison Parker and Adam Ward, a reporter and cameraman for WDBJ-TV, were both shot as they were broadcasting a live report Wednesday morning (August 26), according to WDBJ.
WDBJ-TV reports that the shooter, who was identified as Vester Lee Flanagan, has shot himself on I-66 in Fauquier County, Virginia. He has a faint pulse and is still alive, Virginia state police said.
He was a former reporter for WDBJ and went by the name Bryce Williams on air.
Ward, 27, was engaged to the station’s morning producer, and Parker, 24, was in a long-term relationship with an evening anchor at WDBJ, according to a Facebook post by Parker’s boyfriend.
Vicki Gardner of the Smith Mountain Lake Regional Chamber of Commerce was also injured in the shooting, reported WDBJ-TV. She is in surgery.
The shooting happened at Bridgewater Plaza in Moneta, Virginia.
