FORT SMITH (KFSM) — A suspect wanted in connection to a shooting that injured another man was apprehended Friday (Aug. 28), according to the Fort Smith Police Department.

Police said Brandon Mathis, 18, shot Gustavo Delgado, 28, Thursday in an alley behind a residence in the 2100 block of North I Street.

The shooting was a result of an argument between the victim and his girlfriend and the suspect and another woman, according to police. An eyewitness reported Delgado came out with a golf club and Mathis shot him, then he and the woman left the scene, police said.

The police department got a tip at about 7 a.m. that Mathis was on foot near a convenience store near Grand Avenue and North Albert Pike, according to police. Officers took him into custody without incident, police said.

Mathis is being held at the Sebastian County Detention Center on suspicion of first-degree battery and his bond has been set at $250,000, according to police.

Police said Delgado underwent surgery Thursday night and was in stable condition in the ICU.
