FAYETTEVILLE (KFSM) — A University of Arkansas Razorback football player was arrested early Friday morning (Aug. 28) on suspicion of DWI and minor in possession, according to preliminary reports from the Fayetteville Police Department.
Cheyenne O’Grady, who goes by CJ, is on the football roster as a freshman tight end. On Thursday, head coach Bret Bielema said O’Grady will likely redshirt.
“Based on the information available at this time, we have suspended C.J. O’Grady indefinitely from our program effective immediately,” Bielema said. We all can make mistakes and I hope C.J. uses this as a learning experience and an opportunity to grow. We have addressed the issue and our team focus will remain on preparing for the season opener.”
O’Grady was pulled over by an officer because he did not have a working tail light on his scooter, according to an arrest report. The officer noticed O’Grady had blood shot, red, watery eyes, an odor of intoxicants on his breath and slurred speech, the arrest report states.
Once he was transported to the Washington County Detention Center a breath test showed O’Grady blew a .099 at about 2:45 a.m., according to the arrest report.
His bond has been set at $1,265, according to jail records.
O’Grady is a Fayetteville native and played for Fayetteville High School where he helped lead the team to a 13-3 record and the Arkansas class 7A state championship game in 2014. O’Grady caught 41 passes for 766 yards and 11 touchdowns as a senior. He tallied 45 receptions for 884 yards and 14 touchdowns as a junior. O’Grady also chose to play for the Razorbacks over offers from Texas, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Mississippi State and several others.
