FAYETTEVILLE (KFSM) - Part of Dickson Street in Fayetteville will be shut down Sunday (August 30) for the first-ever Slide the City event.
The day of fun is being presented by Soldier On Service Dogs, a local non-profit that trains and pairs service dogs with veterans who have post-traumatic stress disorder. Angie Pratt is the founder of the organization.
"We have over 60 tents there, we have over 30 local non profits and another 30 local businesses will be here," Pratt said.
She said they're hoping to make around $50,000, which will pay for two dogs to be trained. Vietnam and Korean War veteran Richard Ellett was the first Northwest Arkansas veteran to get a dog from Soldier On.
"It made a big big change, I mean everybody that has PTSD I think would benefit from a dog like Tiger," Ellett said.
Ellett said Slide the City will help get more soldiers like him the help they need. He said right now, Soldier On Service Dogs has 75 soldiers on their waiting list.
"I feel that I've dropped at least 20% from that 70% because of the dog," Ellett said.
