FORT SMITH (KFSM) - September marks National Recovery Month, and two River Valley organizations are taking part in recognizing the month by hosting several events.

For a "5NEWS This Morning" segment that aired Saturday (August 29), anchor Daren Bobb spoke to Emily Starr with the Harbor House and Rusti Holwick of the Guidance Center. They both joined together to host an all day celebration on Saturday, September 12.

The first of the events planned for that Saturday will be the "Race for Recovery" 5K, which organizers say is a timed race and 1 mile fun run. It will begin at 8:00 a.m. at the Chaffee Crossing Historic District, with the start and finish line at the Chaffee Barbershop Museum. Following that event, the Guidance Center will host their event called "A Celebration in the Park" with activities such as live music and face painting going on throughout the day.
