FORT SMITH (KFSM) - The Western Arkansas Technical Center has been offering high school students in the River Valley an opportunity to take college level courses for at least twenty years, allowing them to gain an advantage over their peers when applying for college. Even though they are experiencing record growth for the second straight year, WATC has yet to turn a student away.

For a "5NEWS This Morning" segment that ran Sunday (August 30), anchor Daren Bobb spoke to Chris Rink who leads WATC located inside the University of Arkansas - Fort Smith. Rink said the program was designed for junior and seniors to earn college credit by spending half the day at the program and the other half in high school.

He also said the program covers 19 school districts in Western Arkansas, going as north as Mountainburg and as far south as Waldron.
