FORT SMITH (KFSM) -- September is Hunger Action Month and local stores are helping feed families across the area.

The Great American Milk Drive is being held at CV's and Marvin Saver's Club. When customers check out at the register, they will be asked if they want to donate $1, $3, or $5. The money will go directly to food banks in the form of vouchers.

The milk drive will run from Monday (Aug. 31) through Sept. 26 and the River Valley Regional Food Bank will then give vouchers for a gallon of milk to families in need. The vouchers can be redeemed at CV's or Marvin's.

"[Milk] has got essential ingredients in it so it is helpful for kids in Arkansas," said Ken Kupchick with the River Valley Regional Food Bank.

Kupchick said the River Valley Regional Food Bank is always in need of food and milk is one of the items most requested by families.

"There are a lot of needy families in the area and it is great to give them free milk," Steve Schluterman, a CV's store manager, said.
