CHAFFEE CROSSING (KFSM) -- September is National Honey Month, and many people in the River Valley are celebrating that this weekend.

The Honeybee and Pollinator Festival kicked off at 9 a.m. Saturday (Sept. 5) at the Learning Fields at Chaffee Crossing. The event offers classes, lectures and hands-on training. Festival-goers can also learn about the pollination process and honeybees.

"They produce beeswax, I mean a lot of people are looking for beeswax, and this is a cube of bees wax, and they also produce honey," Danny Brewer, Western Arkansas Eastern Oklahoma Beekeepers Association said. "We brought some honey out to show [visitors] some crystallized honey and some different kind of honeycomb, so we're just here so show them what bees can do for us."

The event wraps up at 3 p.m. and gets underway again on Sunday (Sept. 6) from noon to 5 p.m. The event is free to the public.

And fun fact, the honeybee is the official insect of Arkansas.
