BENTONVILLE (KFSM) – The newly formed Bentonville police color guard did a presentation Friday night (Aug. 11) at the Bentonville football game.

The four-person team lined up and presented the flag as the marching band played the National Anthem. Lt. Michael Martin said it was an honor for them to have their first public appearance on 9/11.

“As horrific as that day was 14 years ago and as hard as it is to look back and think of the tragedies that happened, we have to continue to honor those people, so to be able to do that today of all the days as the first one is an amazing experience and I couldn’t have asked for a better time to represent the country and the fallen officers and firemen that gave their lives that day,” Martin said.

He said the color guard team currently has eight members but said they’re hoping to grow that number to 15.
