FAYETTEVILLE (KFSM) -- Both northbound lanes of Interstate 49 at the Porter Road Exit are open after a semi driver crashed into a concrete barrier early Friday morning (Sept. 11).
The accident happened at the Porter Road Exit around 4:30 a.m., according to officers on scene. The driver of the semi told officers that he fell asleep behind the wheel before it happened.
The driver was not injured in the accident; however, it did cause some serious traffic problems for drivers in the area.
Both northbound lanes of I-49 were shut down for nearly two hours while HazMat crews and first responders worked to clean up oil that leaked from the truck following the accident.
At one point, crews on scene even directed traffic off the interstate, having drivers exit north of Wedington, and around the accident, before coming back up the on the next on ramp.
