BENTONVILLE (KFSM) - Hunting and cooking enthusiasts took over downtown Bentonville Saturday (Sept. 12) for the annual World Championship Squirrel Cookoff.
Thirty-four teams for all over Arkansas and several other states participated in the event. The makers of the top three dishes won cash, Cabela's gift cards and a skillet trophy.
John Bentley, Curtis Osier and Bud Bond participated in the cookoff. They entered squirrel carnitas as their dish, with a side of Mexican rice with blackened squirrel.
"It's a fun sport and it also provides you with food, so it's good in two ways,"Bentley said.
The proceeds of this year's cookoff went to Sheep Dog Impact Alliance.
