FORT SMITH (KFSM) — Problems were reported at some polling locations in Sebastian County Tuesday (Sept. 15), according to the Sebastian County Clerk’s Office.

Seventy-nine Fianna Hills voters were issued ballots without the complete list of candidates after elections started at 7:30 a.m. The Sebastian County Election Commission is in the process of reaching out to those voters to let them know their ballots are invalid and they will need to fill out a corrected version if they wish.

Some voters in Fianna Hills got ballots that only had one race on them when there should have been two. The ballot should have included Fort Smith Schools Zone 1, Position 6, between incumbent Russell Owen and Wade Gilkey, and Fort Smith Schools Position 4 At Large, between incumbent Rick Wade and Bill Hanesworth, but it left off the Zone 1, Position 6 race.

Election Commissioner David Darmon said 79 people voted before the commission caught the mistake. The election will go on as planned and voting will still end at 7:30 p.m. with winners announced afterwards, Darmon said.
