FORT SMITH (KFSM) - For National Hunting and Fishing Day, people are normally expected to either hunt or fish, or do both. But, the Janet Huckabee Arkansas River Valley Nature Center is adding a competitive spirit to test people's outdoor skills.

In a "5NEWS This Morning" segment that ran Saturday (September 19), anchor Daren Bobb sat down with Chad Lowe of the Huckabee Nature Center. Lowe said even though they have kids in three separate age groups competing, their outdoor skills events is family friendly where several instructional courses will be held, including one on firearm safety. A news release stated there will be wall climbing, laser shot, target casting, BB guns, and archery.

Lowe told Daren this is the last year the center is holding competitions. They will start changing a few things next year.

National Hunting and Fishing Day is on Saturday, September 26th from noon to 4 p.m.
