FAYETTEVILLE (KFSM) –  A Tulsa, Oklahoma man was arrested Sunday (Sept. 20) after he led police on a chase through Fayetteville, according to police.

Police said officers responded to reports of a man drinking alcohol inside a Kum & Go gas station on College Avenue. Police said that man was Travis Grider. When officers arrived on scene they found Grider sitting in the driver’s seat of his truck. Police said when Grider noticed the officer he attempted to drive away. The officer then stopped the car and asked to speak with him.

Police said while speaking with Grider, the officer smelled an odor of intoxicants coming from the truck. The officer also noticed a six pack of beer in the passenger floorboard.  Police said Grider then drove off.

Grider led police on a pursuit through several city streets, before entering Interstate 49. Washington County Deputies also joined in the pursuit. Police said Johnson Police Department successfully deployed spike strips on the off ramp of Exit 69, and was able to spike the left front tire of Grider’s truck. Grider continued to flee after his tire went flat before pulling over at the intersection of Greathouse Springs and Highway 112, where he was taken into custody.

Police said Grider stated he had marijuana in the center console of his truck. Police also found a large 8 1/2 inch fixed blade survival knife between the passenger seat and center console.

Grider had a suspended driver’s license out of Oklahoma and did not have a current driver’s license. He is currently being held at the Washington County Detention Center. He faces several charges including, fleeing, reckless driving and operating an unsafe vehicle.

Grider has a 8.1 hearing scheduled for Monday (Sept. 21) in Fayetteville.
