FAYETTEVILLE (KFSM) — The University of Arkansas announced on Friday (Oct. 2) the top three candidates to be the university’s next chancellor.

The three finalists are April Mason, provost and senior vice president of Kansas State University; Joseph Steinmetz,  executive vice president and provost of Ohio State University; and Jeffrey Vitter, provost and executive vice chancellor of the University of Kansas, according to a U of A article published on Friday.

Each of the three candidates will spend two days this month visiting the campus. Mason will visit Oct. 6-7, Steinmetz will visit Oct. 12-13, and Vitter will visit Oct. 14-15.

University of Arkansas System President Don Bobbitt and the Chancellor Search Committee selected the finalists.

A public forum will be held at 10:30 a.m. for each candidate on Oct. 7, 13 and 15 at the Faulkner Center for Performing Arts, the article states. During the forum, the candidates will share their views on how to elevate the institution. They will also take questions from the audience.

The candidates will also spend time meeting with deans, faculty and student leaders, other administrators and the University of Arkansas Board of Trustees.

Bobbitt will make the final selection to recommend to the Board of Trustees. The board has final approval on the chancellor selection.
