A Michigan farmer made a surprising discovery while digging in his field.
What farmer James Bristle thought was a bent fence post turned into the discovery of a partial woolly mammoth skeleton.
The mammoth was an adult male that was probably in its 40s, said Daniel Fisher, museum of paleontology director. He said it probably lived between 10,000-15,000 years ago.
A University of Michigan team excavated the skeleton, which was about 20 percent complete. Out of the 30 mammoths discovered in Michigan to date, this is one of the most complete.
