ROGERS (KFSM) -- A discovery was unveiled at the Daisy Airgun Museum Monday (Oct. 5), as company officials announced the two golf balls hit by astronaut Alan Shepherd on the Apollo 14 mission bore the Daisy logo.

The mission took place February 6, 1971, but the secret of the golf balls wasn't discovered until this summer in Fort Smith.

Daisy President Ray Hobbs said he attended an auction that had several Daisy artifacts belonging to Jack Powers, a public relations executive from that era. One of those items was a signed picture from the Apollo 14 crew.

"Alan Shepherd's comment was when he wrote a little note to Jack Powers was 'Thanks for the Daisy golf balls they're out of this world' and so that's pretty cool to think there's a couple of Daisy branded products on the moon," Hobbs said.

The signed picture and several other photographs from the crews of Apollo 12, 16 and 17 are now on display at the museum in Rogers.

"This is the type of item or artifact or display that you would think of in the Smithsonian," Rogers mayor Greg Hines said.

A golf ball identical to the ones still on the moon are also on display. The Daisy Airgun Museum is open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
