SEBASTIAN COUNTY (KFSM) -- The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission is looking to contain an infectious disease that has been found in wild hogs in the southeastern part of the state.

"They are an ecological problem," said commission member Kevin Lynch. "They cause billions of dollars in agriculture damage across the nation."

He said hogs have been tested for swine and brusolosis and pseudo-rabies.

"If you see one we would like for you to kill one," Lynch said. "We don`t promote the hunting aspect but if you have the opportunity while deer hunting with a firearm, go ahead and take it."

Lynch said the hog population is rising, and should the opportunity to shoot one while hunting arise, to "shoot three or four of them, all if you get the chance."

Experts also say the wild hogs will kill other forms of wildlife, consume eggs and eat the food source for other native Arkansas animals.
