FORT SMITH (KFSM) — The Fort Smith Police Department made an arrest during its investigation into multiple drive-by shootings that occurred Wednesday (Oct. 28) and connected the three shootings to a robbery that happened in Bonanza Tuesday, according to a release from police.

The drive-by shootings happened between 1:38 a.m. and 2:57 a.m. at residences in the 1800 block of Boston Street, 600 block of Trenton Drive and the 1800 block of North 52nd Street, according to police. At each scene, officers located 9mm shell casing and damage to property that included bullet holes in windows and vehicles, police said.

During the investigation some of the victims were identified as suspects in a robbery that happened in Bonanza, according to police.

Police interviews led investigators to Novah “Wilson” Darter, 18, of Fort Smith as a suspect in the drive-by shootings, police said. Darter is an acquaintance of the victim in Bonanza, according to police.

Darter was located at a residence on North Q Street and just before 8 p.m. Wednesday SWAT team members entered the home where they found 14 people, five of whom were under the age of 18, police said. Investigators also found multiple assault rifles, shotguns, handguns, quantities of suspect marijuana and drug paraphernalia, according to police.

Darter was arrested on a warrant for felony petition to revoke bond and the other people in the home were brought to the police department for interviews, police said. Investigators believe the weapons and contraband were purchased through unlawful drug sales and all the items were seized, according to police.

Aside from Darter, the other individuals were released, but the investigation is ongoing and police expect additional charges and arrests, police said.

An adult man was arrested in connection to the robbery in Bonanza, but his name has not been released, according to police. The items taken during the robbery included marijuana, a wallet, high-priced shoes and a gaming system, police said.

The Sebastian County Sheriff’s Office is assisting in the investigation.
