SILOAM SPRINGS (KFSM) – Many shoppers spent Sunday (Nov.1) taking advantage of sales in downtown Siloam Springs for the annual Holiday Open House.
“It's never too early to start Christmas shopping! Except sometimes I forget where I hide things -- that's the bad part,” shopper Suellen Coleman Chase said.
Chase is getting a head start on her Christmas shopping list -- the big day is just seven weeks away.
“I’m always looking for stuff for my three daughters, so it's fun to start picking out stocking stuffers and things,” Coleman Chase said.
She is one of many shoppers out getting ready for Christmas. This year, the Holiday Open House event lands the day after Halloween.
"It’s a little weird for everybody to have Halloween and then come and see Christma,” Shirley Congrove said.
Congrove works at a shop called “Occasions,” and said they start preparing for the open house event six weeks in advance.
“We start getting the trees down, getting them decorated. I make arrangements,” Congrove said. “It’s a lot of work, a lot of hours, but it's a lot of fun, we enjoy it!”
Now that the trees are lit and the ornaments are out, shoppers like Coleman Chase said they are closer to being ready for the holidays.
“People really look forward to this every year,” Congrove said.
This is the 29th year of the event.
