FORT SMITH (KFSM) -- The process of transitioning mascots at Southside High School is coming to a close.
On Monday evening (Nov. 2), the mascot committee decided on a logo to represent the school's new mascot of the "Mavericks."
Southside High School principal Wayne Haver said the design was formulated by an alumn that graduated in the '80s.
The committee was presented with dozens of choices brought in by the public.
Haver said a professional designer with make slight modifications to the logo.
After weeks of hearing recommendations to replace the "Rebels," the committee voted to make "Mavericks" the new mascot on Oct. 12, 2015.
Six of the 30 committee members were not present, including Mayor Sandy Sanders, who had other obligations.
Haver said something similar to the design below would appear on some sports gear and clothing.
