MADISON COUNTY, Mo. (KFSM) — A man is dead after leading deputies with the Madison County Sheriff’s Office on a chase on Interstate 49 Tuesday evening (Nov. 3).

Deputies said the chase started after they were called to check on a ‘suspicious person’ who was parked on one of the interstate’s off ramps, which leads to Missouri State Highway 76.

When deputies arrived, they said suspect Mark Willis, of Rogers, pulled out a weapon and fired shots at them. Deputies were able to run the Willis’ plates, and determined that he was in a stolen vehicle.

Deputies then chased Willis for several miles on Interstate 49, between the towns of Anderson and Goodman.

Willis then shot himself, according to deputies on scene.

I-49 between Anderson and Goodman was closed while deputies continue to investigate both the chase and the shooting.
