CRAWFORD COUNTY (KFSM) -- Two suspects are in custody after being arrested on suspicion of being involved with seriously injuring a man on Thursday afternoon (Nov. 5).

Paul Morton, 60, and Stephanie Morton, 47, are behind bars at the Crawford County Detention Center. Paul was arrested on suspicion of second degree domestic battery and is being held on a $5,000 bond. Stephanie was arrested on suspicion of obstructing governmental operations and unlawful possession of a firearm. She is being held on a $3,500 bond.

Crawford County Sheriff Ron Brown said the two suspects are the cousins of the victim, who was taken to a Fort Smith hospital with a serious head wound.

Brown said the man originally told someone he was shot, but then told police he was hit in the head with a glass whiskey bottle.

Brown said the incident happened across from the Uniontown ball field on Burchfiel Road, and said the wound was "definitely not self-inflicted." He said he could not confirm if it was a shooting or not, and that a glass bottle could have caused the injury. He did say the wound was not life-threatening.

Brown said Stephanie and the victim were arguing over a t-shirt for four days, and the argument escalated.

After speaking with the victim, police said the man appeared to be intoxicated. The victim's name has not been released.

The suspects are scheduled to have arraignment hearings on Nov. 25, 2015.
