Six Dead After Charter Bus Crashes In North Little Rock

NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KFSM) — Six people are dead after a charter bus ran off Interstate 40 and crashed early Friday morning (Nov. 6) in North Little Rock, according to Arkansas State Police.

The accident happened at the North Hills Boulevard overpass overnight and was reported to troopers around 1 a.m., according to a press release from Bill Sadler with ASP. The release states the bus was traveling westbound when it left the road west of the I-40 and Highway 167 interchange and collided with an abutment of the overpass.

Six of the other 22 people on the bus had minor injuries after the crash, the release said. The vehicle is owned by Vasquez Citrus and Hauling Company of Lake Placid, Florida, and was en route from Monroe Michigan to Laredo, Texas.

Roberto Vasquez, 28, of Monroe, Michigan, was driving the bus, the release states. He has a Michigan driver’s license and agreed to be tested for intoxicants after the wreck.

Vasquez, who is not the owner of the company although he bears the same name, survived the accident, Maj. Foster with the Arkansas State Police said in a press conference.

The investigation is still ongoing, and no indication on what caused the crash has been released yet.

Drivers headed westbound on I-40 were diverted for about two hours after the accident, Sadler said. All lanes were reopened by 4 a.m.

The names of victims and those who were injured have not been released.

Crews with the Arkansas Red Cross on scene told reporters the passengers on the bus were migrant workers. State Troopers are working with federal authorities and the Mexican Consulate to notify the victim’s next of kin who may be out of the country, the release states.
