SPRINGDALE (KFSM) -- The Springdale City Council elected to make a change in law Tuesday (Nov. 10) night, which will allow a new farmers market to open up.
“Farmers markets are just very popular right now,” said Doug Sprouse, mayor of Springdale. “People like to eat produce, and other products that are locally grown.”
Currently, the only farmers market in the city is hosted at the Jones Center on the eastern edge of the city.
Sprouse said the addition of a new farmers market in Springdale will help the city rebuild the downtown area.
“I believe with the revitalization, most everyone agrees that a farmers market more centrally located downtown would have a greater impact,” Sprouse said.
Organizers with the farmers market said the location, at the intersection of Johnson and Mill, will be easily accessible for both motorists, and those on the Razorback Greenway.
“We really wanted to create a destination market that people can come downtown, enjoy the morning, and spend time with our community,” said Tiffany Selbey, a manager of the new farmers market. “I think that can have a really great impact with the downtown initiative.”
Both Selbey, and Sprouse, said they don’t want this farmers market to replace the one at the Jones Center.
Selbey said she anticipates more than 20 vendors will be at each farmers market.
