WASHIGNTON, D.C. (KFSM) — Sen. Tom Cotton, R-Ark., announced Tuesday (Nov. 17) that he would introduce the Liberty Through Strength Act in an attempt to delay the termination of a counterterrrorism program.

According to his website, Cotton said this act would “empower the NSA to uncover threats against the United States and our allies, help keep terrorists out of the United States, and track down those responsible in the wake of the Paris terrorist attacks.”

The Republican senator’s post states his legislation would delay the USA FREEDOM Act’s termination of the terrorist metadata collection program until the president can certify the new NSA collection system is as effective as the current system.

The USA FREEDOM Act is scheduled to go into effect on Dec. 1, 2015.
