The holidays are fast approaching and many of you will be spending more time with the family. This week Garrett Lewis takes the family out exploring on the Razorback Greenway.

If you are looking for a family adventure this Fall, the answer might be found in your own back yard. This week, Garrett Lewis explored the Razorback Greenway in Northwest Arkansas.

Before hitting the trail, Garrett stopped by Lewis & Clark Outfitters for advice on bicycling as a family. Ben Yates says the Greenway is becoming more popular for everyone.

“You don’t need to have any special skills, even if you’re out of shape and looking to get into shape. The paved trails are very accessible since they go from the south end of Fayetteville to the north end of Bentonville. You can get on them anywhere.”

For those who want to get started in bicycling, a hybrid bike starts around $300-400.

“The price is affordable, and it’s a versatile bike really great for the paved trails. If you see some gravel or need to cut thru a field or something like that, it can still handle something like that. ”

In addition, Lewis and Clark also boasts a collection of mountain bikes and road bikes for beginners, all the way up to professional with free lifetime tune ups included.

For the families, trailers can easily attach and detach to bikes, and are even equipped with screens to protect your kiddos from bugs or wet weather.

“Most of the trailers we have carry two kids up to 100 pounds.”

With our bikes ready, it was time to hit the trail. The Razorback Greenway extends a total of 36 miles.

Much of the trail is paved with and pained with two lanes. Runners. walkers, and cyclists are all welcome on the trail.

The $38 million trail weaves through six down-towns, three hospitals, twenty-three schools, and the major corporate headquarters of Northwest Arkansas.

Garrett and his wife rode a total of eight miles on the trail, stopping occasionally along the way to take in the sights, enjoying the family time, nature, and the best of where they live.

The Razorback Greenway follows many historic routes in our area including the Butterfield Stagecoach Route, Trail of Tears, and paths used in the Civil War.
