ARKANSAS (KFSM) -- The shopping extravaganza known as Black Friday has kicked off in Northwest Arkansas and the River Valley today (Nov. 27).

In Rogers, shoppers stood for hours in the rain waiting to get inside Cabela's, hoping to get great deals on hunting and fishing gear. The store offered the first 600 customers a mystery envelope with a gift.

Cabela's is offering extended hours today, and will not close their doors until 10 p.m.

In Fayetteville and Fort Smith, shoppers are flocking to Best Buy. On Thanksgiving day, nearly 200 people were in line at the Fayetteville store to get deals on electronics. Best Buy in Fort Smith and Fayetteville is open from 8 a.m. until 10 p.m.

Academy Sports + Outdoors opened their doors to shoppers at 5 a.m. They'll remain open until 10 p.m.

The term "Black Friday" dates back to a time when accounting records were kept by hand. Red ink indicated a loss, while black ink referenced a profit. And with all of the deals being offered, most stores will see a higher profit today than any other day of the year.
