RIVER VALLEY (KFSM)– The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers issued a small craft advisory for the Arkansas River Saturday (Nov. 28), as recent rains have caused flows to rise.
Strong currents and large debris can threaten safety during high flows. In a news release from the Corps of Engineers, these advisories are issued when flows exceed 70,000 cubic feet per second. Flows at Trimble Lock and Dam at Fort Smith were about 120,000 and climbing. Flows at Dardenelle Lock and Dam at Russellville were 140,000 cubic feet per second.
More rain could push flows higher or cause the advisory to remain in effect longer, the release states. Daily river information can be found here.
