FAYETTEVILLE (KFSM) — A 35-year staple of Dickson Street has closed its doors

Jose’s Restaurant and Cantina is vacating its location on 324  W. Dickson St. It will be replaced by a JJ’s Grill, which the owner said should be open by late spring or early summer in 2016.

Jody Thornton, who owns all six JJ’s Grill locations in Arkansas, will count the new location on Dickson as his seventh.

He said, “We are honored and thrilled that Jose’s wants to partner with us to have JJ’s take over for hopefully another 35 years.”

Currently Doug Allen owns Jose’s in Springdale and Joe Fennel owns Bordinos on Dickson. Allen and Fennel, along with Thornton, will all co-own JJ’s on Dickson.

Thornton said Jose’s on Dickson closed Monday (Nov. 30).

The restaurant did not close because of businesses issues, but rather Allen didn’t want to have the day-to-day responsibility of managing the grill, so he figured co-owning was a perfect marriage.

Thornton is also looking to provide a face lift to the area, since the prime location has been revered for many years.
