FORT SMITH (KFSM) — A fire broke out after a tree limb fell on top of a power line in Arkoma on Wednesday morning (Dec. 2), resulting in an area outage of Internet and cable to Cox Communications subscribers.

According to the communications director Christine Martin, the fire started just before 8 a.m. and was extinguished about an hour later.

Martin said the fallen limb was thought to be the result of high winds.

Martin said  maintenance crews have been working throughout the day, and the hope is to restore internet and cable services as soon as possible.

Another Cox Communications representative said the estimated time for repair is 7 p.m.

The representative said the outage was temporary, and that maintenance crews had already responded to the problem.

There was no repair time given, and no cause determining the outage. She also said it is too early to assess the costs of damages from the fire.
