SEBASTIAN COUNTY (KFSM) — The Sebastian County Humane Society in Fort Smith has made an exciting announcement for dog lovers! They will soon be adding a dog running and walking program.

According to the Sebastian County Humane Society Facebook page, the Tails and Trails program lets volunteers take an approved shelter dog away from the shelter to go to a park, neighborhood or even a local hiking trail. This gives the dogs a chance to get out of their kennels and socialize.

Each dog will be checked out with a collar or harness, leash and doggie clean-up bags.

The Sebastian County Human Society believes this program will greatly help the shelter dogs improve their physical and mental health, improve adoption rates and get the community to think more about adopting their pet, rather than shopping for one.

The first orientation is on Friday, January 8 at 12 p.m. at the Sebastian County Humane Society, located at 3800 Kelley Highway.
