TAMPA, FL (KFSM) – The historic run for UA-Fort Smith came to an end in the elite eight of the Division II NCAA Tournament.
After winning 28 straight matches, including three in the NCAA tournament, the Lady Lions run came to an end by a 3-1 defeat to No. 12 Wheeling Jesuit.
UAFS (29-4) took the opening set but Wheeling Jesuit rallied to win the final three to claim the 17-25, 25-14, 25-23, 25-18 win at the Bob Martinez Athletics Center.
UAFS was held to a .146 hitting percentage while Wheeling Jesuit connected on .202 of their attacks. Abigail Phillips and Kennedi Coleman finished with 16 kills for the Lady Lions while Payton Hamilton added 13. Emma Schleucher led the way for Wheeling Jesuit as she finished with 18 kills.
