FORT SMITH (KFSM) — The Fort Smith Parks and Recreation director has assumed a little more responsibility.

Acting city administrator Jeff Dingman announced Friday (Dec. 11) that Doug Reinert would take over as Interim Director for the Department of Sanitation.

The move comes shortly after former sanitation director Baridi Nkokheli was fired on Monday. Nkokheli said he is now seeking legal representation and plans to sue the City of Fort Smith, Jeff Dingman and city auditor Tracey Shockley.

Reinert will continue to serve as the parks director.

“I am honored to accept this challenge,” Reinert said in a release from the city. “My goal is to provide effective leadership, inspire innovation, and emphasize sound fiscal responsibility as the men and women of the Department of Sanitation continue to provide excellent service to the community.”

Reinert was appointed Director of Parks & Recreation in April 2015, the release stated.

“I will seek out the strengths of the department and build on them,” Reinert said in the release. “We will learn about any inefficiencies and create change where needed. I believe that while change is challenging, it is a necessary pillar of growth.”
