ROGERS (KFSM) -- Two hundred military families in Northwest Arkansas and the River Valley will have meals for Christmas, thanks to the group Operation Homefront.

It is part of the national Holiday Meals For Military program, in which 8,700 families across the United States receive a little extra help. Arkansas coordinator Cecil Ennett said the free meals are way to help with the financial stress of the holidays.

"If we can provide them a meal that will feed a family of four with breakfast the next morning, then maybe that will help them take care of some other bills," Ennett said.

Each family receives two grocery bags full of dry and canned goods. Ennett said meals are given to families of active duty, reserve, guard and wounded warriors.

Volunteer and retired Marine Nathan Waits said spending his Friday (Dec. 11) packing hundreds of bags was the least he could do.

"It's nice to know that someone beside yourself is helping provide for your family," Waits said. "It really gives you the sense that everyone else cares in a world like this, this is a nice little gesture that goes a long way."

The bags will be distributed Saturday (Dec. 12) from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
