FAYETTEVILLE (KFSM) – As Arkansas prepares to face Kansas State in the Autozone Liberty Bowl, the Hogs offensive front will have a new leader.

Sam Pittman, who joined the staff as offensive line coach in Bret Bielema’s first season, has left Arkansas for the same job at the University of Georgia.

The Bulldogs hired Kirby Smart earlier this week as their new head coach and tabbed Jim Chaney the new offensive coordinator. Chaney was the offensive coordinator at Arkansas in 2013 and 2014 and also worked with Pittman at Tennessee.

Pittman, along with tight ends coach Barry Lunney Jr., were the only assistants remaining from Bielema’s first staff at Arkansas.

Bielema said Saturday that Eric Mateos will coach the offensive line in the bowl game and the school is hoping former Arkansas tackle Brey Cook can move into a graduate position early. Cook, who has been helping Springdale Har-Ber, was set to begin in January.

The Arkansas coach took a group of offensive linemen to meet with Pittman Saturday night to try to convince him from leaving.
